The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 ships with two Intel Gold 6126 processors, each running at 2.6 GHz with twelve cores and 19.25 MB cache. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 memory populate four 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. Eight 960 GB SAS SSDs fill the 2.5 inch drive bays behind an H730P RAID controller. This configuration targets databases, virtualisation hosts and compute clusters that need balanced core count and fast local storage.

Sustained load behaviour with 1100 W redundant power

Dual 1100 W redundant supplies keep the system running if one unit fails. The 2U chassis provides airflow for the two 12 core processors and eight SSDs during continuous workloads. Intel X550 networking delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 and two 1 Gb RJ45 links for steady throughput. iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote monitoring of thermals, power draw and component health without interrupting production traffic.

Installation notes for rack mounting

Rails and a bezel without LCD are included for standard 19 inch rack mounting. All eight 2.5 inch bays are occupied, so adding storage requires a chassis change or external enclosure. The eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are free for additional controllers or network cards. No optical drive is present, so operating system deployment relies on virtual media via iDRAC or USB.
