The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Gold 6132 processor with 14 cores at 2.6GHz. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 memory in two 16GB modules and two 300GB 10K SAS drives. The system targets organisations that need dense compute in a standard rack footprint.

H730P RAID controller and iDRAC9 Enterprise

The included H730P RAID controller manages the two 300GB SAS drives and supports additional drives across the eight 2.5-inch bays. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides remote console, power control and firmware updates without an operating system. Redundant 1100W power supplies, rails and power cords are also supplied.

Eight 2.5-inch drive bays define storage ceiling

The chassis holds a maximum of eight 2.5-inch drives, so total raw capacity is limited by that bay count. Buyers who need more storage must add external enclosures or choose a different platform. PCIe Gen 3 slots and dual 10Gb RJ45 ports are available for expansion.
