The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rackmount system built for storage-heavy workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6134 processors, each running at 3.2 GHz with eight cores. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory are installed across four slots. The chassis provides twelve 3.5-inch drive trays for SAS or SATA hard drives.

Verify rack space and drive inventory

Confirm that your rack can accommodate a 2U unit and that you have compatible 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives to populate the twelve trays. The PERC H730P controller supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Network connectivity uses a quad-port daughter card with two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ interfaces. Remote management is handled by iDRAC 9 Enterprise.

Dual CPU and redundant power platform

Both processor sockets are occupied, so no further CPU upgrades are possible. Twenty-four memory slots allow expansion up to 3 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory. Redundant 750 watt platinum power supplies provide hot-swap resilience. Ready rails and a front bezel are included for immediate rack integration.
