The Dell PowerEdge R740xd fits twenty-four 2.5-inch drives in a 2U chassis and ships with two Intel Xeon 5118 Gold processors at 2.3 GHz. It is built for databases, virtualisation clusters or dense storage arrays that need local capacity and compute in one box.

Sustained dual-socket throughput

Two 12-core CPUs with 16.5 MB cache each feed 1.5 TB of DDR4 ECC registered memory, so memory-bound workloads keep running without swapping. The PERC H730P RAID controller manages the drive fleet while dual 1100 W supplies share the load during continuous operation.

Tool-less rails and remote setup

The chassis accepts tool-less rail kits for quick rack mounting and iDRAC9 Enterprise gives full out-of-band control before the OS loads. Drive bays are hot-swap but no drives are included, so the first task is populating the twenty-four slots with compatible SATA media.
