The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for storage-heavy workloads such as software-defined storage and virtual desktop infrastructure. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6130 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with 16 cores and a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules. Twenty-four 300 GB 10K SAS 2.5-inch drives provide high-density capacity.

Compatibility checklist

Verify that your rack supplies 2U of vertical space and supports the included sliding rails. Confirm the facility can deliver redundant power to two 1100 W platinum-efficiency supplies.
