The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server with 24 front-accessible 2.5-inch drive bays. Two Intel Xeon Gold 6142 processors run at 2.6 GHz with 16 cores each. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across four modules. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Dual 1100 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise are fitted.

This platform fits software-defined storage, virtual desktop infrastructure and service-provider deployments that need high drive counts in 2U. The quad-port network daughter card provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ links. Buyers who need GPU acceleration or more than two sockets should look at a different chassis. No drives are included, so storage capacity must be sourced separately.
