Dual Xeon 8468 2U server

The Dell PowerEdge R760 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8468 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.8 GHz turbo frequency and 48 cores. It includes 128 GB of DDR5-4800 ECC registered memory across 8 modules and a PERC H965i RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache. Four 960 GB SATA SSDs and a quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card are installed, while iDRAC9 Datacenter provides remote management.

Sustained load behaviour

The 1400 W platinum power supplies operate in redundant hot-swap mode, allowing continuous operation during a unit failure. Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays support SAS, SATA and NVMe drives, so storage throughput scales with workload rather than bursting to a single-cache limit. DDR5-4800 ECC registered modules maintain data integrity under prolonged memory pressure, and the H965i controller sustains RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the full drive set.

Interface limits

PCI Express Gen5 expansion slots set the ceiling for add-in card bandwidth, while the OCP 3.0 networking slot fixes the on-board Ethernet to 1 GbE per port. The SATA 6 Gb/s interface caps each installed SSD at that transfer rate, and the sixteen 2.5-inch bays define the maximum internal device count. Memory capacity tops out at 8 TB across 32 DDR5 slots, and the dual-socket LGA 4677 design prevents adding a third processor.
