Dense four-socket compute node

The PowerEdge R930 is a 4U rack server that holds four Intel Xeon E7-8890 v4 processors, each with 24 cores running at 2.2 GHz and a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 384 GB of DDR4 memory installed across 48 modules and can scale to 12 TB using all 96 slots. This density targets organisations running large in-memory databases, virtualisation clusters or ERP workloads that demand maximum core count and memory capacity in a single chassis.

Storage and networking bundle

Twenty-four 1.92 TB SATA SSDs connect through a Dell PERC H330 controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50 for redundancy or capacity tuning. A quad-port network daughter card adds two 1 GbE ports and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports for flexible uplink options. Embedded iDRAC8 Enterprise enables remote power control, console redirection and firmware updates without an operating system. Four 1100 W platinum-rated supplies and sliding rails are included for immediate rack deployment.

Platform limits to plan around

The LGA 2011 socket and C602J chipset restrict CPU upgrades to the Xeon E7 v4 family; newer processor generations are not compatible. Memory speed is capped at DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC, so faster modules will downclock. The PERC H330 provides 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity but lacks a backed cache, limiting write performance compared to higher-tier controllers. Only SATA SSDs are installed; the chassis can accept NVMe drives but they are not included.
