The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. Twelve cores per CPU deliver 24 threads for virtualization, database hosting and business-critical workloads. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four modules. Four 960 GB enterprise SATA SSDs are pre-installed behind the Dell PERC H330 storage controller.

Sixteen hot-swap bays and expansion

Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays support SAS, SATA and SSD media, leaving twelve bays free for additional capacity or performance tiers. The PERC H330 controller provides 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA connectivity for the installed drives and any future additions. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet handles network traffic, while PCI Express slots remain available for RAID, networking, GPU or other add-in cards. iDRAC 9 Express enables remote management and lifecycle control without a dedicated monitor or keyboard.

Two hot-plug 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies operate in redundant mode, maintaining uptime if one unit fails. The 5U chassis directs airflow across the dual-socket processor complex and memory DIMMs, keeping thermals stable under sustained multi-threaded loads. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature, so acoustic output remains appropriate for a data-centre environment rather than an office desktop.
