Converged 5U rack platform

The Dell VRTX fits a blade chassis, shared storage and networking into a single 5U rack enclosure. Two M630 compute blades are installed, each carrying a 10-core Intel E5-2687W v3 processor at 3.1 GHz and 128 GB of DDR4 memory. Twelve 20 TB 7.2K SAS drives populate every 3.5-inch bay, served by an S130 controller and a PERC8 RAID module. Four 1600 W redundant power supplies and a 1 Gb switch module complete the infrastructure.

Virtualisation clusters and storage-heavy workloads

This system suits teams consolidating virtual machines or hosting large datasets where drive count and blade density matter. The single CMC and iDRAC8 Express simplify remote oversight. Buyers who need more than two compute nodes or who require 10 Gb switching should look elsewhere, as the chassis tops out at four blades and the supplied switch is 1 Gb only.

Twelve-bay 3.5-inch drive limit

Raw capacity is capped at twelve 3.5-inch drives, so the installed 20 TB SAS units represent the maximum drive count the chassis can accept. Expanding storage beyond this point means adding external enclosures rather than filling more internal bays.
