Dual twelve-core Xeon density

The HP ProLiant DL360 Gen9 packs two E5-2670v3 processors at 2.3 GHz into a 1U rack chassis. Twelve cores per CPU give 24 physical cores and 48 threads for virtualised workloads. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory fill half the 24 DIMM slots, leaving room to grow. The B140i controller manages the two installed 500 GB SATA drives in RAID 0, 1, 5 or 10.

B140i software RAID limits

The onboard B140i handles SATA only, so the two 7.2 K RPM 2.5-inch drives operate without a hardware accelerator. RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 are supported, but parity rebuilds consume CPU cycles. No hardware cache or battery-backed write cache is present, so write-heavy databases will see higher latency than with a dedicated RAID card. Additional SATA drives can be added to the remaining six bays.

Redundant power and hot-swap bays

Dual 500 W hot-swap supplies keep the server running if one unit fails or needs replacement. Eight SFF bays are accessible from the front, allowing drive changes without powering down. The Matrox G200 provides basic video for installation and troubleshooting. No operating system is included, so the administrator chooses the hypervisor or OS that matches the workload.
