Rack server for data-centre workloads

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 occupies 2U of rack space and ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor at 1.9 GHz. 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory fills part of the 24 available DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum. Two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives connect to the onboard B140i software RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. Dual 500 W hot-swap power supplies provide redundancy for continuous operation.

Integration into a rack build

The chassis offers eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays; the two installed drives leave six bays free for additional SATA storage. A second processor can be added to reach the 36-core ceiling and unlock the remaining 12 DIMM slots. Optional universal media bay, NVMe drive cage or extra SFF bay kits mount in the second and third bay positions for further density. Matrox G200eH2 graphics supply basic console output without occupying a PCIe slot. Redundant power and hot-swap components simplify maintenance without downtime.

Sustained-load behaviour

The six-core Xeon runs at a fixed 1.9 GHz base frequency, delivering predictable throughput for multi-threaded server tasks over long periods. DDR4 memory operates up to 2400 MT/s within the processor's supported range, maintaining bandwidth during extended compute windows. Dual redundant power supplies share load evenly, reducing thermal stress on each unit during continuous duty. B140i software RAID manages parity calculations on the host CPU, so sustained write-heavy workloads will consume processor cycles that would otherwise serve applications.
