ProLiant DL380 G9 2U server

The HP ProLiant DL380 G9 is a 2U rack server built for data-centre workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2609 v3 six-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 96GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 24 DIMM slots. The system includes a Smart Array P440 controller with 4GB flash-backed write cache and two 600GB 15K SAS drives. Dual 500W redundant hot-swap power supplies are fitted as standard.

Build integration and expansion

The chassis provides 24 small-form-factor drive bays with an option to add a rear cage for two more drives. The P440 controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across 12Gb and 6Gb SAS links. A second processor can be added to reach the 36-core maximum and unlock the full 3TB memory ceiling. The Matrox G200eH2 graphics adapter handles basic console output without occupying a PCIe slot.

Suitable buyers and limitations

This configuration suits teams needing dense, redundant compute with hardware RAID and room to scale storage or memory later. Buyers who want more storage capacity or faster flash media out of the box should look elsewhere. Organisations requiring pre-installed operating systems or GPU acceleration for compute tasks will need to add those separately. Environments limited to 1U height or non-rack mounting cannot use this server.
