Server purpose

The HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2643 v3 six-core processor running at 3.4 GHz. It ships with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and two 1 TB 7.2K SATA drives managed by the B140i software RAID controller. The chassis includes redundant hot-swap 500 W power supplies and eight 2.5-inch SFF drive bays for internal storage expansion. This configuration suits small-business virtualisation hosts, file and print servers, or test environments that need enterprise-class reliability without a full data-centre footprint.

Upgrade path

The platform supports a second Xeon E5-2600 v3 or v4 processor, raising the core count toward 36 total cores across both sockets. Memory can scale to 3 TB using the 24 DDR4 DIMM slots when both processors are installed, with registered ECC modules up to 64 GB each. Storage flexibility grows through the empty SFF bays, optional NVMe bays in bay 2, or additional 8-bay cages in bays 2 and 3 for up to 24 drives total. RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 are available on the B140i for SATA volumes.
