The HPE DL380 Gen9 4LFF chassis is a 2U rack server built for virtualization and database workloads that demand high core counts and large memory footprints. It ships with two Xeon E5-2698v3 processors running at 2.3GHz, each providing 16 cores and 40MB cache. The 512GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory supports demanding multi-tenant environments. Four 3.5-inch drive bays are ready for SATA or SAS storage.

Installation and common issues

The unit arrives with BIOS and firmware updated to the latest stable version and has passed full diagnostics and burn-in testing. A P440 PCIe SAS controller manages the drive bays, so storage installation follows standard SAS/SATA cabling to the backplane. The 2x 500W Flex Slot power supplies are hot-pluggable and provide redundancy. Remote management via HPE iLO allows headless configuration and monitoring before an operating system is loaded. Rail kits are available on request but are not included by default.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous load the dual 16-core processors maintain their 2.3GHz base frequency across all 32 threads, while the DDR4 ECC memory corrects single-bit errors without interruption. The P440 controller offloads RAID parity calculations, keeping CPU cycles available for application work. Dual 1GB Ethernet ports on the 332T adapter handle steady network traffic without saturating the PCIe bus. Redundant 500W power supplies share the load evenly, reducing thermal stress on any single module during extended operation.
