HPE DL380 Gen9 8SFF server

The HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 is a 2U rack server built for virtualisation, database and general compute workloads. It ships with a single Intel Xeon E5-2660v3 processor running at 2.6GHz with ten cores and 256GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. Remote management is provided by HPE iLO Advanced and networking includes two 10GbE and two 1GbE ports. The 8SFF chassis accepts up to eight 2.5-inch drives.

Capacity and headroom

Installed memory of 256GB DDR4 leaves generous headroom against the 3TB maximum supported across 24 DIMM slots. A second Xeon processor can be added to double core count when workloads demand it. The Smart Array P440 SAS controller manages RAID across SATA or SAS drives but no drives are installed, so storage capacity starts at zero. Dual 500W Flex Slot power supplies deliver redundancy for the configured components.

Single Xeon E5-2660v3 processor

Only one Xeon E5-2660v3 is installed, limiting the server to ten cores and twenty threads until a second matching processor is added. Buyers who need higher thread counts or dual-socket memory bandwidth from day one should plan for the additional CPU. The integrated graphics controller is suited only for console output, not GPU compute. No drives or rail kit are included in this configuration.
