The QLogic QLE2562 is a new host bus adapter with two SFP ports that delivers 8 Gbps per port over a PCIe 2.0 x8 slot. It targets IT teams building or expanding fibre-channel storage fabrics in rack-mounted servers. Buyers who need more than two ports or a newer PCIe generation cannot use this card.

PCIe 2.0 x8 bandwidth caps real-world throughput

The host interface is limited to PCIe 2.0 x8, so aggregate throughput cannot exceed the electrical ceiling of that generation even though each port signals at 8 Gbps. Latency-sensitive workloads that saturate both ports simultaneously will hit the bus bottleneck before the media limit. No higher link speed or wider lane count is supported by this adapter.

Low-profile bracket eases rack installs but SFP

The card fits standard low-profile brackets and needs only a free x8 slot; driver support is mature across current Linux and Windows Server kernels. The common mistake is ordering the wrong transceiver — single-mode versus multi-mode — or forgetting that SFP modules are sold separately. Compatibility lists should be checked before the maintenance window.
