Capacity and use

The Samsung 870 EVO is a 2.5-inch internal solid-state drive with a 250 GB capacity. It connects through a SATA interface and is intended for everyday consumer workloads such as operating system boot, application loading and general file storage. The drive uses V-NAND flash memory to deliver reliable performance in desktop and laptop upgrade scenarios.

Thermals noise and power

With no moving parts the drive runs silently and generates minimal heat during typical desktop use. Power draw stays low because the SATA interface limits the electrical budget, so the drive adds little to the overall system thermal load. The lightweight 0.09 kg design also means it does not strain drive bays or mounting points in compact chassis.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous read or write workloads the drive maintains speeds up to 560 MB/s and 530 MB/s respectively until the SLC cache is exhausted. After that the native TLC write speed takes over, so long transfers will settle at a lower but steady rate. Thermal throttling is unlikely in normal case airflow because the controller and flash run cool under sustained SATA-bandwidth limits.
