The StarTech.com SDOCKU313 is a desktop enclosure that accepts one 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch SATA hard drive or SSD. It connects to a host computer through a USB 3.1 Gen 2 interface rated at 10 Gbps and supports UASP for reduced protocol overhead. The top-loading tray includes an eject button for quick drive swaps. It is backward compatible with USB 3.0, 2.0 and 1.x ports.
Sustained transfer limited by SATA
Under continuous workloads the dock delivers throughput bounded by the SATA III link at 6 Gbps rather than the USB 3.1 Gen 2 ceiling. UASP helps maintain efficiency during long sequential reads or writes, but the single-bay design has no active cooling, so extended heavy I/O on high-capacity mechanical drives may lead to thermal throttling. The included universal power adapter supplies consistent power for both 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch units during prolonged operation.
Drive capacity ceiling of 6 TB
The enclosure supports SATA I, II and III drives up to a maximum capacity of 6 TB. Drives larger than 6 TB are not supported by this model. Users needing to access higher-capacity volumes or multiple drives simultaneously will require a different solution.
