192 GB DDR4 capacity and headroom

Four DIMM slots accept up to 192 GB of DDR4 memory, giving ample headroom for heavy multitasking, content creation or large virtual-machine workloads. Populating all four slots at high frequency may require manual tuning to maintain stability. The limit is reached when total installed memory exceeds the rated maximum or when signal integrity degrades at extreme speeds.

SATA and chipset interface limits

Six SATA 6 Gbps ports provide connectivity for traditional hard drives and SATA SSDs, each capped at the interface’s 6 Gbps throughput. Additional storage devices must use PCIe lanes from the CPU or chipset, which are finite and shared with other peripherals. The Z790 chipset link to the CPU also has a fixed bandwidth ceiling that can become a bottleneck with multiple high-speed add-in cards.
