80 mm PWM case fan for compact builds

The BGears b-PWM 80 Black is an 80 mm case fan built for small-form-factor systems and tight mounting points. It uses a 4-pin PWM connector for automatic speed control and includes a 3-pin to 4-pin Molex adapter for direct power supply connection. Nine translucent black blades and a 2-ball bearing complete the package.

PWM range 500 to 4000 RPM defines the operating

Speed scales automatically between 500 and 4000 RPM, delivering up to 78 CFM of airflow at the top end. The 4-pin interface enables the motherboard to regulate fan speed based on temperature, so noise drops to 37 dBA at low load. Without PWM support the fan runs at fixed voltage, losing the quiet low-speed range.

Replaces fixed-speed 80 mm fans when variable

The jump is worthwhile for builders who want one fan that stays silent at idle and spins up under load. It is not suited for mounts limited to 3-pin voltage control without PWM headers, nor for radiators demanding higher static pressure than 78 CFM provides. Larger 120 mm or 140 mm frames will not fit the same cut-out.

Questions sur cet article

Should I pick the 80 mm version or one of the larger 90 mm, 120 mm or 140 mm models?

Choose the 80 mm size when your case or cooler only accepts 80 mm fans; the 90 mm, 120 mm and 140 mm versions are for larger mounts and will not fit an 80 mm opening.

What does the 78 CFM figure mean once the fan is installed in my PC?

At the maximum 4000 RPM the fan can move up to 78 CFM of air, delivering strong cooling for hot components; at the 500 RPM minimum the airflow drops proportionally for quieter operation.

How does the 4-pin PWM connector control the fan and what limits does it impose?

The 4-pin PWM header lets the motherboard vary speed between 500 and 4000 RPM, so the fan runs quietly at idle and spins up to 4000 RPM only when the system demands more cooling.
