This Dell PowerEdge M640 blade server arrives new and fully configured for dense compute environments. Dual Intel Xeon Platinum 8158 processors deliver 24 cores at 3.0 GHz for parallel workloads. The 64 GB DDR4 ECC registered memory supports virtualization and database tasks. Integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise enables remote lifecycle management from deployment to decommission.

Capacity and headroom

Two 300 GB 10K SAS drives provide 600 GB of fast mechanical storage behind a PERC H330 RAID controller. The board supports up to 1 TB of DDR4 across its DIMM slots leaving generous headroom for memory growth. Only two 2.5-inch drive bays exist so storage expansion stops at a second drive. The 10 GbE dual-port adapter handles east-west traffic but offers no additional PCIe slots for extra networking.

Dual Xeon Platinum 8158 configuration

The pair of Platinum 8158 CPUs is the defining specification each with 12 cores and 24.75 MB cache at 3.0 GHz. This fixed two-socket layout cannot accept a third processor or a different generation. Buyers who need higher core counts per socket or newer instruction sets must choose another platform.
