The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rackmount server built for dense virtualization, database and application hosting workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors, each delivering 18 cores at 2.40 GHz for a total of 40 cores. The system includes 192 GB of DDR4 memory to support multiple concurrent virtual machines and data-intensive services. It is intended for IT teams that need high core density in a single rack unit.

Front-Access Storage and Management

Ten 2.5-inch drive bays sit behind the front bezel, with eight bays capable of accepting NVMe devices alongside standard SATA SSDs. The ten installed 2 TB SATA SSDs connect through the integrated H730P storage controller, which simplifies array configuration and ongoing volume management. Front-panel LEDs provide immediate status for power, Ethernet and USB activity. The LGA3647 sockets are fully populated, so no further CPU upgrades are possible.

Thermals and Power in Rack Operation

Designed for continuous operation in standard rack environments, the chassis uses redundant cooling to maintain stable temperatures across both processors and the full drive complement. Acoustic output is managed for data-centre deployment rather than office proximity. The 60 kg weight requires appropriate rack rails and structural support during installation. Power consumption scales with the dual-processor load and ten-drive array under typical virtualization demand.
