Dual-socket Xeon Gold 5218R server

The Dell PowerEdge R640 is a 1U rack-mounted server system equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5218R processors running at 2.1 GHz. It provides 40 physical cores and 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory for virtualisation, database or compute workloads. The chassis supports four 3.5-inch drive bays and includes a PERC H740P RAID controller. No drives are installed, so storage must be added separately.

SATA drive interface and 10 GbE networking

The system uses a SATA interface for its four hot-plug drive bays, limiting installed drives to that protocol. A 10 GbE two-port 562T network adapter is fitted for high-throughput connectivity. Dual 750 W power supplies provide redundancy within the 1U form factor. Remote management is handled by iDRAC9 with an Enterprise licence for out-of-band control.

7.68 TB maximum memory capacity

The platform supports up to 7.68 TB of DDR4 memory across its DIMM slots, far above the 64 GB currently installed. This headroom suits memory-intensive applications such as in-memory databases or dense virtualisation. Buyers who need storage pre-configured or a different drive protocol should look elsewhere. The unit ships with firmware updated and a rail kit available on request.
