Compact 1U Server for Dense Workloads

The Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server built for virtualization, databases and private cloud deployments. It fits two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors, each with 20 cores running at 2.3 GHz and a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 512 GB of DDR4 2666 MHz registered ECC memory across 16 DIMM slots. It is designed for data centres that need high compute density in a single rack unit.

Storage and Network Limits in a 1U Chassis

Ten 2.5-inch drive bays connect to the Dell PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache, supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 over SATA. The installed drives are 960 GB SATA SSDs; SAS and NVMe drives are also supported by the platform but are not included. Networking is provided by a Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card. The server ships with two 1400 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise for remote management.

Memory Capacity Decides Fit

Maximum memory capacity is 2 TB across 32 DDR4 DIMM slots, so the current 512 GB configuration leaves room for expansion. Buyers who need more than 2 TB of RAM or who require a different memory generation cannot use this platform. The LGA 4189 socket limits upgrades to compatible 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors only.
