This new Dell PowerEdge R650 is a 1U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Gold 6330 processors. Each CPU provides 28 cores running at a 2.0 GHz base frequency with a 3.1 GHz turbo boost. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across eight 16 GB modules. Ten 1.92 TB SATA SSDs connect through a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache.

Virtualisation Hosts Not Needing More Bays

The dense 1U form factor and dual-socket design suit virtualisation clusters, database nodes and private-cloud compute tiers that want maximum core count per rack unit. The ten 2.5-inch drive bays limit raw capacity, so workloads demanding dozens of high-capacity drives should look at larger chassis. Buyers who need PCIe Gen4 NVMe speed for the primary dataset will also need a different backplane configuration.
