Dense 1U compute node

The PowerEdge R650xs packs two Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors into a single rack unit, delivering 32 cores at 2.4 GHz with 3.4 GHz turbo. Sixty-four gigabytes of DDR4-2666 registered ECC memory are installed across four modules, leaving room for expansion up to 1 TB. The PERC H745 controller with 4 GB NV cache manages the eight 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive trays.

Storage interface ceiling

The backplane accepts only SATA and SAS drives, so NVMe devices cannot be used in the eight front bays. RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 are supported by the H745, but the controller does not present NVMe namespaces to the operating system. Builders who need PCIe-attached flash must choose a different chassis or add a riser card not included here.

Dual-socket ceiling

Only two processor sockets exist on the system board, and both are already populated with Silver 4314 CPUs. LGA 4189 limits upgrades to other 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable parts, so core-count growth stops at the maximum supported by that generation. Buyers who want more sockets or a newer socket generation cannot achieve it with this server.
