Server overview

The Dell PowerEdge R730XD is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Xeon E5-2650 v3 ten-core processor running at 2.3 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory and a Perc H730 RAID controller supporting levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. The chassis provides twelve 3.5-inch hot-plug drive bays for SAS or SATA media and includes a DVD ROM drive.

Compatibility checks

Verify that your rack can accept a 2U form factor with redundant 750 W hot-swap power supplies. Confirm the motherboard chipset is Intel C610 and that any additional processor matches the E5-2650 v3 specification for the second socket. Memory expansion uses 24 DDR4 DIMM slots, twelve per processor, supporting modules up to 128 GB each at speeds dependent on the installed CPU. Network connectivity relies on a daughter card with four 1 GbE ports; optional 10 GbE cards require the appropriate NDC slot.

Build and daily use

Dual redundant power supplies and hot-plug drive bays allow component replacement without downtime. The H730 controller occupies a dedicated slot, leaving up to six PCIe 3.0 slots for additional cards. Remote management is handled by iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller, offering out-of-band access for monitoring and firmware updates. Video output uses a Matrox G200 chip with 8 MB cache for basic console display. A power cable is included; rail kit availability should be confirmed separately.
