Rack Server for Compute Workloads

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built around a single Intel Gold 6142 processor with 16 cores at 2.6GHz. It ships with 64GB of DDR4 memory configured as four 16GB modules running at 2666 MT/s. This configuration targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and general-purpose compute clusters that need density in a standard rack footprint.

Controller and Networking Add Flexibility

The integrated H740P RAID controller manages the two installed 2TB 7.2K SAS drives and supports additional bays in the 8-bay 2.5-inch chassis. Network I/O is handled by an Intel X550 adapter providing two 10Gb RJ45 ports plus two 1Gb RJ45 ports. Remote administration comes from iDRAC9 Enterprise with full lifecycle control. Rails, bezel and power cords are included in the box.

Memory and Storage Headroom for Growth

The 64GB DDR4 baseline handles moderate VM densities and in-memory databases; the platform scales to much larger capacities when workloads demand it. Two 2TB 7.2K SAS drives deliver 4TB of redundant capacity for operating systems, logs or warm data. Eight 2.5-inch bays leave room for additional SAS or SSD devices. A single 1100W redundant power supply supports the current load with headroom for extra drives and PCIe cards.
