The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 arrives with dual Intel Gold 6126 processors, each running at 2.6GHz with 12 cores and 19.25M cache. 128GB of DDR4 memory is installed across eight 16GB modules at 2666MT/s. Six 960GB SAS SSDs are configured behind an H730P RAID controller in an eight-bay 2.5-inch chassis. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides full remote management out of the box.

Check rack depth and power before ordering

The 2U form factor needs a standard 19-inch rack with sufficient depth for cabling and airflow. Verify that your facility can supply redundant 1100W power feeds for the included hot-plug supplies. Network uplinks use two 10Gb RJ45 and two 1Gb RJ45 ports from the onboard Intel X550 controller. Ensure your switch ports and cabling match these interfaces.

Included rails and bezel simplify installation

Sliding rails and a front bezel without an LCD panel ship with the unit, reducing separate accessory orders. Two power cords are also provided for immediate connection to redundant PDUs. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots remain available for additional network, storage or accelerator cards. The system includes no optical drive, so OS installation must use USB, network boot or the iDRAC virtual media feature.
