2U rack server with dual 14-core CPUs

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 fits in a 2U rack space and ships with two Intel Gold 6132 processors running at 2.6 GHz. Each CPU provides 14 cores and 19.25 MB cache for a total of 28 threads. 128 GB of DDR4 memory is installed as eight 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. Two 800 GB SAS SSDs and an H730P RAID controller handle storage. An 1100 W redundant power supply and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management are included.

Eight 2.5-inch bays and PCIe Gen 3 slots

The chassis offers eight 2.5-inch drive bays, though only two are populated with the supplied SSDs. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 expansion slots are available for additional controllers or network cards. The integrated Intel X550 network daughter card provides two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports. No optical drive is fitted, so software must be loaded via network or USB.

Verify rack depth and power connections

Confirm that your rack can accommodate the server depth and that you have suitable PDU outlets for the redundant 1100 W supplies. Ensure your environment can deliver adequate cooling for a 2U dual-socket system. Check that your operating system and hypervisor support the installed Intel Gold 6132 processors and the H730P controller. Rails, bezel and power cords are included.
