Dual Silver 4210R 10-core server

The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Silver 4210R processors running at 2.4 GHz. Each CPU provides 10 cores and 13.75 MB cache for multi-threaded workloads. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory in four 16 GB modules at 2666 MT/s. It targets virtualisation hosts, database nodes and general-purpose compute clusters.

8-bay SFF chassis with H730P RAID

The chassis holds eight 2.5-inch drive bays and includes a PERC H730P hardware RAID controller. Two 480 GB SATA SSDs are installed, leaving six bays free for capacity expansion. Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies maintain uptime during a module failure. iDRAC9 Enterprise provides dedicated remote management over a separate network interface.

PCIe Gen 3 limits expansion bandwidth

Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots are available for additional network, storage or accelerator cards. The onboard Intel X550 controller delivers two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for network connectivity. No optical drive is fitted, so OS installation relies on USB or network boot. Buyers needing PCIe Gen 4 bandwidth or more than eight slots should consider alternative platforms.
