The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server built for virtualization, dense storage, and high-performance computing. Dual 16-core Xeon Gold 6130 processors at 2.10 GHz with 3.70 GHz turbo provide 32 total cores. It includes 256GB of DDR4 3200MHz memory and 7.68TB of enterprise SSD storage across four 1.92TB drives. Windows Server 2022 Standard licenses the 16 cores.

Upgrade from single-socket or smaller memory

This system replaces single-socket servers or configurations with less than 256GB of RAM when workloads demand more parallel threads and larger in-memory datasets. The jump is worth it when virtualization density, software-defined storage, or traditional enterprise applications exceed the capacity of a single processor and smaller memory footprint. Rail kit included, drives and memory ship separately

Installation requires populating the eight DIMM slots with the supplied 32GB modules and installing the four 2.5-inch SSDs into the hot-swap bays. The Broadcom BCM5720 quad-port 1GbE controller and iDRAC9 Express remote management are ready once cabled. Forgetting to seat all memory modules or drives before first boot is the most common issue.
