The Dell PowerEdge R740 is a 2U rack server fitted with two Intel Gold 6132 processors, each delivering 14 cores at 2.6 GHz. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 memory arranged as four 16 GB modules running at 2666 MT/s. Six 480 GB SATA SSDs are installed across the 2.5-inch drive bays, managed by an H730P RAID controller. This configuration targets organisations that need dense compute and fast local storage in a standard rack footprint.

Dual 1100 W redundant power supplies

Two 1100 W redundant power supplies share the load, so a single unit failure does not interrupt operation. The integrated iDRAC9 Enterprise remote-management controller provides out-of-band monitoring, virtual console access and firmware updates over a dedicated network interface. Intel X550 networking adds two 10 Gb RJ45 ports and two 1 Gb RJ45 ports for high-throughput and management traffic. Fan speeds adjust automatically to inlet temperature, keeping acoustic output appropriate for a data-centre aisle.

Included bezel rails and power cords simplify

A front bezel without an LCD panel, sliding rails and power cords are supplied in the box, so the server can be racked and powered immediately. Up to eight PCIe Gen 3 slots remain available for additional network cards, accelerators or storage controllers. The eight 2.5-inch bays support two more drives beyond the six SSDs already populated. Buyers who require an optical drive or larger 3.5-inch drives will need a different chassis.
