The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for data-intensive workloads that demand maximum capacity in minimal rack space. It ships with twenty-six 3.5-inch 4TB SATA hard drives delivering over 100TB of raw storage. Dual Intel Xeon Platinum 8160 processors provide forty-eight total cores at 2.1GHz with 3.7GHz turbo for heavy compute tasks. The system targets software-defined storage, backup repositories and media archive deployments.

Dual CPU, DDR4 memory and PERC H730P RAID

Two LGA 3647 sockets are fully populated, leaving no room for additional processors. Sixteen DDR4 slots hold 256GB of ECC registered memory in eight 32GB modules, with headroom to reach 1TB. The Dell PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the SATA backplane. The platform is not suited for latency-sensitive transactional databases or all-flash performance tiers.
