The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for data-intensive workloads that demand high storage density. It ships with two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors, each offering 24 cores at a 2.4 GHz base frequency with 3.9 GHz turbo. The system includes 128 GB of DDR4-2933 ECC registered memory across eight modules. A Dell PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages the 26 front-accessible 3.5-inch drive trays.

Storage Controller and Network Limits

The integrated PERC H730P controller supports SAS and SATA drives with RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Network connectivity consists of a dual-port 1 GbE LOM and a Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25 Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card. The server supports a maximum of two processors and 1 TB of DDR4 memory across 16 DIMM slots. No drives are installed from the factory.
