The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a new 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with 12 cores. It includes 128 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 16 slots and a PERC H730P RAID controller with 2 GB cache. Four 960 GB SATA SSDs and dual 750 W redundant power supplies complete the configuration.

Virtualisation and database hosting

This server suits organisations running VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V or Proxmox VE virtualisation clusters, Microsoft SQL Server databases, file and print services or software-defined storage workloads. The 16 hot-swap 2.5-inch bays and RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60 support provide flexible local storage. Buyers who need more than two processors, larger memory capacity than 1 TB, or a smaller rack footprint should evaluate other platforms.

16 hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays

The chassis provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays supporting SAS and SATA drives, which determines how many local disks can be installed without external enclosures. The PERC H730P controller manages these bays with battery-backed cache for data protection. If the application requires more internal bays or a different drive form factor, this chassis will not meet that requirement.
