Dual Xeon Gold 5118 5U server

This Dell PowerEdge T440 is a new 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides twelve cores, giving twenty-four cores total. The system includes 32 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across sixteen DIMM slots and a PERC H330 storage controller for SATA and SAS drives. It targets organisations that need virtualisation, database hosting or software-defined storage in a tower or rack form factor.

Four 1.92 TB SSDs and dual 750 W PSUs

The server ships with four Dell Enterprise 1.92 TB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5-inch solid-state drives installed in the front bays. Dual 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power. Integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express remote management are built in. The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so rack mounting requires a separate conversion kit or rail purchase.

Check drive bays and memory expansion

Verify that your rack can accommodate a 5U tower chassis and that you have suitable rails or a conversion kit, as rails are not supplied. The sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays accept SAS, SATA and SSD media; only four are populated. Memory capacity can grow to 1 TB using the twelve remaining DDR4 slots. Ensure your workload fits within the two-processor maximum and the H330 controller's RAID capabilities.
