Dual Xeon Silver 4116 5U server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.0 GHz turbo and twelve cores. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across sixteen DIMM slots, expandable to 1 TB. The system includes a PERC HBA330 storage controller and four 1.92 TB SATA solid-state drives installed in 2.5-inch hot-swap bays. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy.

SATA SSD and HBA330 throughput limits

The four installed 1.92 TB drives connect through the HBA330 controller using the SATA 6 Gb/s interface, which caps sustained sequential throughput at the bus limit. The controller also supports SAS devices, but the current drives operate at SATA speeds. Sixteen 2.5-inch bays are available in total, so additional drives will share the same controller bandwidth. Network connectivity is provided by a dual-port gigabit Ethernet adapter, limiting external transfer rates to one gigabit per second per port.

Tool-less drive bays and rail kit omission

Hot-swap drive carriers allow drive installation without tools once the server is racked or positioned. The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so a separate rail kit must be sourced for rack mounting. Memory upgrades require opening the chassis and populating the remaining fourteen DDR4 slots in matched pairs for optimal performance. The iDRAC 9 Express module enables remote hardware management before the operating system loads.
