Dual Xeon Gold 5118 5U Server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors, each running at 2.3 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency and twelve cores. It targets organisations that need a scalable platform for virtualisation, database hosting or software-defined storage. The system ships with 16 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory and a PERC H730P 2 GB storage controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. An iDRAC 9 Express module provides out-of-band remote management.

16 GB DDR4 and 16 drive bays

Installed memory is 16 GB across two 8 GB modules, leaving fourteen of the sixteen DDR4 slots free for expansion up to the 1 TB maximum. The chassis provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays, though only eight drive trays are included, so additional trays are required to populate the remaining bays. The H730P controller handles both SAS and SATA drives, offering headroom for mixed workloads. Storage capacity runs out when all sixteen bays are filled or when the controller’s 2 GB cache becomes a bottleneck under heavy random I/O.

Redundant 750 W power and iDRAC 9

Dual 750 W platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver hot-swap redundancy, keeping the server running if one unit fails. The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so rack mounting requires a separate conversion kit and rail set. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet handles basic network connectivity, while PCI Express slots remain available for additional network cards, GPU accelerators or extra storage controllers. iDRAC 9 Express enables remote power control, hardware monitoring and firmware updates without an operating system.
