S130 RAID controller limits expandability

The installed S130 controller manages the twelve 20 TB 7.2K SAS drives but does not support hardware RAID 5 or RAID 6. Rebuild times on 20 TB spindles can extend to days, increasing exposure to a second failure. The single controller also creates a solitary point of failure for the entire array. Workloads needing faster rebuilds or dual-controller redundancy will need a different PERC card.

Check blade count, PCIe slot mix and network uplink

Only two of the four blade slots are populated, so two remain empty for future blades. The chassis offers eight PCIe slots — three full-height and five low-profile — shared across all blades; verify the slot allocation matches your add-in cards. Uplink connectivity relies on the 1 Gb switch module; environments requiring 10 Gb or faster uplinks must add compatible modules.
