The HP ProLiant DL160 Gen9 fits a standard 1U rack space and ships with dual Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors, each running at 2.4 GHz with eight cores. Thirty-two gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory are installed across the 16 available DIMM slots. The B140i software RAID controller supports SATA drives in RAID 0, 1 or 5 across the eight 2.5-inch small-form-factor bays.

Redundant hot-swap 550 W power supplies share the load and keep the system running if one unit fails. The 1U chassis uses internal fans that ramp speed based on inlet temperature and CPU utilisation. Memory bandwidth scales with the populated DIMM slots up to the 2400 MT/s limit of the installed DDR4 modules. The Matrox G200 graphics controller with 16 MB video memory handles only basic console output.
