Ninety-six gigabytes of DDR4 ECC registered memory occupy half the 24 DIMM slots, leaving room for expansion up to the platform maximum. The B140i controller handles SATA RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 without a dedicated hardware card.

Sustained-load behaviour

Redundant hot-swap 500W power supplies keep the system running during a module failure, protecting uptime in continuous operation. The 1U chassis forces a high-airflow cooling path that keeps both CPUs and memory within thermal limits during extended compute tasks. Because the B140i is a software RAID layer, sustained write throughput depends on the host CPU rather than a dedicated buffer, so heavy parity rebuilds will consume processor cycles. Eight 2.5-inch drive bays accept SAS or SATA media, allowing mixed SSD and HDD tiers for capacity and speed.

Build and connectivity implications

The Matrox G200 graphics core with 16MB video memory provides basic console output only, so a discrete GPU is required for any graphical workload. Front-access drive trays with included screws simplify drive swaps without tools, while the universal media bay option adds flexibility for optical or backup devices. Dual redundant power supplies connect via standard IEC cords, easing rack PDU planning. With memory already at the 96GB installed limit shown in the configuration, further upgrades need higher-capacity DDR4 modules rather than additional slots.
