Upgrade from single-socket or lower-core systems

Moving from a single-processor box or a dual-socket platform with fewer cores adds up to 36 total cores when fully populated with compatible v3 or v4 Xeons. The jump is worth it when licensing costs scale per socket and you need higher thread density in the same rack height. The B140i controller handles RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 for SATA drives only, so existing SAS arrays will need a different controller.

Check power, drive bays and memory speed

Dual 500W hot-swap supplies provide redundancy but require compatible PDU outlets. The chassis offers eight 2.5-inch SFF bays; two trays with screws are included but no drives are installed. Memory runs up to 2400MT/s depending on the processor capability, so verify that any additional DDR4 modules match the supported speeds and registered ECC requirement.
