The processor drops into an LGA 1151 motherboard after the socket lever is lifted; no special tools are needed. Because this is an OEM package there is no stock cooler, so a compatible aftermarket heatsink and thermal paste must be supplied separately. A common issue is forgetting to update the motherboard BIOS for 7th generation support before fitting the chip. Bent socket pins or uneven mounting pressure can also prevent the system from posting.
