The Lenovo ThinkPad P17 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation built around an Intel Xeon W-10855M processor with 6 cores and 12 threads. It ships with 64 GB of DDR4 3200 memory in a four-module configuration and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe SSD. The NVIDIA QUADRO RTX 4000 GPU provides 8 GB of GDDR6 video memory for professional visualisation workloads. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Thermal behaviour on long renders

The six-core Xeon W-10855M runs at a 2.80 GHz base frequency and can reach 5.10 GHz with Turbo Boost across its 12 threads. Sustained compute tasks such as extended rendering or simulation runs will be governed by the 170 watt AC adapter and the 94 Wh six-cell battery. The chassis uses a 500 nit UHD IPS panel with HDR 400 and Dolby Vision, which adds thermal load during prolonged high-brightness operation. Throttling thresholds are managed by the vendor firmware.

Thunderbolt 3 and display limits

Two USB Type-C ports support Thunderbolt 3 for external GPUs, storage arrays or dual 4K monitors. HDMI 2.0 provides a third video output limited to 4K at 60 Hz. The Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 module operates on 802.11ax with 2x2 streams alongside Bluetooth 5.1. Three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports handle legacy peripherals while a single RJ45 jack supplies gigabit wired networking.
