The ThinkPad P71 is a 17.3 inch mobile workstation running Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor with a turbo frequency of 3.80 GHz. It carries 8 GB of DDR4 memory, a 256 GB PCIe NVMe SSD plus a 1 TB hard drive, and an NVIDIA Quadro P3000 graphics card with 6 GB of video memory. The FHD IPS display shows 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input. ISV certification covers over 100 applications.

FHD panel and Quadro P3000 practical limits

The 1920 x 1080 IPS panel provides accurate colour for professional content but cannot render higher resolutions or HDR content. The Quadro P3000 6 GB GPU handles certified 3D workloads and multi-display output within its memory budget, yet it is not suited for modern real-time ray-tracing pipelines or very large GPU compute datasets. The PCIe NVMe SSD accelerates boot and application load, while the secondary hard drive adds bulk capacity for archival files.

Soldered memory and drive bay access

The 8 GB of DDR4 memory is soldered to the board, so total system memory cannot be increased beyond the factory configuration. Storage upgrades are limited to the 2.5 inch bay and the single M.2 slot already occupied by the NVMe drive. The optical bay holds a DVD±RW unit that can be swapped for a caddy, but doing so removes the optical drive. Fingerprint reader and smart-card reader are integrated and require no user setup.
