Socket AM3 platform
This motherboard uses the AMD 880G chipset and a Socket AM3 socket. It accepts 64-bit Phenom II and Athlon II processors for desktop builds. The Micro ATX form factor fits compact cases while keeping four memory slots. It is aimed at users upgrading or maintaining legacy AMD systems.
DDR3 memory ceiling
Dual-channel DDR3 runs at 1066, 1333 or 1600 MHz with overclocking. The board tops out at 16 GB total capacity across the four slots. A single PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot, two x1 slots and one classic PCI slot provide expansion. Six SATA ports handle storage without RAID 5 support.
Back-panel connectivity
Four USB 2.0 ports sit on the rear I/O alongside Gigabit LAN from the Atheros AR8131M controller. The VIA VT1828S audio codec delivers 8-channel output via standard jacks. A PS/2 combo port, VGA, DVI and HDMI outputs cover legacy and digital displays. The package adds a CMOS battery, one SATA cable and an I/O shield.

Questions sur cet article
Should I choose a board that supports 16GB DDR3 or one limited to 8GB?
This board supports up to 16GB of DDR3 memory across its dual-channel slots, so you can install four 4GB modules or two 8GB modules for the full capacity.
What does the DDR3 1600 (overclocking) rating mean once the board is running?
The board runs DDR3 at 1333MHz by default; selecting 1600MHz in the BIOS is treated as an overclock and requires compatible modules and stability testing.
How fast can the PCI Express x16 slot actually run with a modern graphics card?
The slot is wired for PCIe 2.0 x16, so a newer card will operate at 2.0 speeds rather than its native 3.0 or higher rate.
