The MSI MAG B850M MORTAR WIFI is a micro-ATX motherboard built around the AMD B850 chipset for socket AM5. It supports Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series processors, giving builders a compact platform for current and upcoming CPUs. Four DDR5 slots accept up to 256 GB of memory, making it suited to gaming rigs and workstations that need high capacity in a smaller case.

Lift the socket lever, align the triangle on the Ryzen processor with the socket marker, place the chip gently without pressure, lower the frame and lock the lever; the step often missed is removing the protective plastic cover from the socket before insertion.
The only user-serviceable part is the M.2 slot covers; keep them in place when drives are absent to prevent dust buildup and clean the heatsink fins with compressed air during routine system cleaning.
VRM thermal throttling is the first limit; the 10-phase power delivery handles Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series CPUs, but prolonged all-core workloads can raise MOSFET temperatures enough to reduce clock speeds before other components saturate.
