ThinkMate TWX-QS8 server memory kit

This 1.5 TB kit contains twelve 128 GB DDR5 4800 registered ECC RDIMMs built for ThinkMate TWX-QS8-14E4 and TWX-QS8-24E4 tower servers. Each module runs at 1.1 V with CL40 latency and a 4Rx4 organisation using major OEM Samsung, Micron or Hynix chips. The kit targets administrators who need maximum registered ECC capacity in these specific platforms.

Installation notes and common issues

Installation is a standard DIMM insertion into the server’s 288-pin DDR5 slots and typically takes minutes; always follow the system manual for population order and BIOS settings. Because the modules are registered ECC RDIMMs they must be used in a platform that supports registered memory and the correct rank configuration; mixing with unbuffered or non-ECC DIMMs will prevent boot. Heat spreaders are not fitted, so adequate chassis airflow over the modules is required.

DDR5 4800 registered ECC limits

The PC5-38400 standard sets the data rate at 4800 MT/s and the registered buffer adds one cycle of command latency, which is normal for server workloads. Total capacity is capped at the 1.5 TB provided by this twelve-module kit and cannot be exceeded on the supported ThinkMate models without a platform change. ECC correction handles single-bit errors and detects multi-bit errors but does not protect against catastrophic module failure.
